How to update KYC EPF UAN Online?

It is mandatory to update your KYC information for EPF. You can update your KYC online via UAN EPFO portal. To update or change your KYC (Know your customer) detail on UAN EPFO portal, you require UAN (Universal Account Number) credential. You need to login to EPFO UAN portal and update your KYC information by inputting required information.

EPF UAN KYC

The KYC information includes PAN card number, Aadhaar card, and bank account details. If you have not yet updated these details on the EPFO portal you must do it now. KYC update in EPF offers following benefits.

  • If your KYC EPF UAN is completed you will not face any delay during transfer or withdrawal of EPF money.
  • Online EPF withdrawal is not allowed if KYC information are not seeded with UAN.
  • If bank account details are not updated your claim may get rejected.
  • The EPF member without updated information will not get any SMS alert.
  • If PAN card detail is not updated TDS will be charged at higher rate on withdrawal.

Under KYC section on UAN portal you can update following information –

  • Bank Account Number
  • PAN
  • Passport
  • AADHAR
  • Driving License
  • Election Card
  • Ration Card
  • National Population Register

Note – Updating all information is not mandatory. You should update bank account number, PAN and Aadhaar on UAN Portal.

How to update KYC for EPF UAN Online?

Updating KYC on UAN portal is very simple. Follow the steps given below to update the details.

#Step 1

Login to EPFO UAN portal – https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/ using UAN credential. In the Manage tab, you will find menu ‘KYC’ and Contact details.

#Step 2

Select the KYC information you wish to update from the list.

#Step 3

Once you select system will allow you to enter the document number and name as per Document. If you are updating your bank account you need to also provide the IFSC code. For a Driving license and Passport entering an expiry date is mandatory. You will be able to update your Bank Account Number, PAN, Aadhaar, Passport, Driving License number, etc. PAN, Bank Details, and Aadhaar are mandatory for KYC.

#Step 4

Once you complete entering data press the save button. You will be able to see the message KYC Data Update completed successfully.

If there is no error you will be able to see “KYC Pending for Approval” with details of modification in the “Pending KYC Section”. The status of KYC will be shown as pending until details are approved by the employer.

EPF KYC Pending Approval

In case your KYC details are not correctly entered you can press button given below the “Delete” column. This will delete submitted KYC information.

#Step 5

Once your employer approves the changes status will be changed as “Approved by employer”. You will also receive an SMS for the change.

The details will be shown as verified in front of the document.

Apart from KYC, you can also modify your contact details on the portal. In order to do so, please go to “Manage>>Contact Details” from the menu. You will be able to change your registered mobile number and e-mail address.

For the verification, OTP will be sent of the registered mobile number. The details will not get changed immediately.

How to check EPF KYC Compliance Status?

There are three different ways to check EPF KYC compliance status.

#1 KYC Status on UAN Card

You can get KYC compliance status by looking at your UAN card. You can download your UAN card from the e-Sewa Portal.

Your UAN card contains information about KYC. If KYC in your EPF account is completed, you will see ‘Yes’ in front of the KYC information on your UAN card.

#2 Document Approval under the KYC tab

You can check the KYC status of your documents and get compliance details of your KYC. You need to go to the KYC option under the manage tab in the e-Sewa Portal.

You will see all documents that are approved and verified. You need to check Aadhaar and bank details and KYC status to submit an online claim submission.

#3 EKYC Portal EPFO

EKYC portal EPFO was another way to get your KYC compliance status. However, it is closed temporarily due to security reasons.  The steps for checking are given below.

You need to click on the button Track EKYC. On clicking this button, you need to enter your UAN number and captcha code. After entering this information click on the TRACK EKYC button. You will be redirected to the page where you can see KYC status. The message would be “Dear Member, Your Aadhaar Details XXXX XXXX against UAN XXXX XXXX has successfully been verified. Online EPFO services linked with Aadhaar can be availed.”

Frequently asked questions – KYC EPF UAN

Is it mandatory to update these KYC details?

No, it is not mandatory to update these KYC details. However, these details can help you in processing your claim faster. Not only that you can get a regular update on SMS if KYC details are updated.

Can I upload the document directly online?

Yes, you can upload a document by going to the ‘Profile menu’ and selecting ‘Update KYC Information’. The uploaded KYC document will be sent to the employer for verification and Approval. Till the time it is not approved by the employer status of KYC will be shown as “Pending”.

You need to scan the KYC document first and save it as .jpg/.gif/.png/.pdf. These documents can be uploaded online. The size of the scanned document should not exceed 300kb. You can upload multiple documents at the same time.

How much time will it take to change approval status?

After uploading your employer has to approve the KYC. Your employer needs a digital signature in order to authorize your KYC. It will take approximately 48-72 hours to change the approval status in the system. The information shall be verified by the appropriate authorities in the system.

  • National Population Register
  • AADHAR
  • Permanent Account Number
  • Bank Account Number
  • Passport
  • Driving License
  • Election Card
  • Ration Card

What to do if my employer is not approving KYC?

Usually, the employer will approve KYC details on the portal. In case your employer is not doing so you can directly approach the administration or HR department with the request. If it is taking more time you can escalate it to higher authority in the organization.

If no one is responding to your request you can approach EPF Grievance via http://epfigms.gov.in

How do I know that the KYC updated by me is approved by the employer?

The status will be shown against the updated KYC document on the same page. The system will also trigger SMS on your registered mobile number.

      In order to change/update IFSC code or bank account details you need to re verify details online using KYC.

      Login to your UAN account and go to KYC section. Select Update your Bank account detail from KYC menu.Type IFSC code along with Bank Account Number in respective boxes and then upload the scanned copy of cancelled cheque leaf which belongs to the mentioned Bank account number.

      Once this details are verified your IFSC code will be changed.

      Under Select your KYC menu you will get option Bank Account Number/IFSC. If that option is not visible you are requested to contact UAN Helpdesk.

      It is very difficult to find PF number if it is not given y employer.However, you can check your payslip PF account number might be placed on it.

      1. If you employer does not provide you a UAN, the first thing you have to do is to check whether EPFO has allotted a UAN number for you or not. You can check it by visiting the official website of EPFO. On the website, you need to enter your existing PF number. The website will then display the status of your UAN. If your UAN is generated, you will receive a message saying that your UAN is allotted.

            You need to get KYC updated in EPFO account. This can be done only with help of your employer.If you have left the company you are requested to contact EPFO office with all KYC data and proof for correction.

  7. If you have updated KYC details on your own you need to contact your employer to approve the change in system. Once it is approved by employer it will take 2-3 week to complete KYC verification and updation.

    Will my money of previous employer will be safe.

    1. Yes your EPF money will be safe and you can withdraw that amount at later stage.However,as you are working at other place it is suggested that you transfer that money in your current EPF account.

  10. It’s been two months that my wife has been trying to get her Aadhar uploaded for KYC in the UAN website but the site is down for two months now.

    She has already uploaded her Pan and Bank details and the same as been approved by the employer.

  13. I have a problem on EPF KYC. Recently one of the members quit the job, and so we showed his date of exit accordingly. At that time his KYC was not done. Now when he approached the EPF Office for withdrawal of his funds, they told him his KYC was not done, and for withdrawal of funds KYC need to be done. So we tried to update his KYC online, But since we had already submitted his name in exit employee, the site doesn’t approve his KYC saying this member doesn’t exist. So how to approve his KYC.     My employer updated incorrect bank account and PAN details for me in KYC page of new EPFO website. I then re-uploaded correct KYC details 2-3 weeks back, after EPFO site became operational again.

    But my employer now says that they are not able to approve KYC, since website is giving an error and not allowing to approve.

    I wrote to EPFO email about this, but they replied saying website is working fine.

    I dont know what to do now, please give your expert advice on what should I do now? I want to get this resolved soon since I wish to withdraw my PF.

      You can contact EPFO directly by personally visiting them.You need to tell that you want to link Aadhaar to your UAN.You can submit valid document and complete the linking and KYC.

    FORM 15 G/15H. Remarks DA/AO; FORM 15G/15H, PAN CARD NOT SUBMITTED WITH CLAIM/FORM.

      You need to submit xerox copy of PAN card along with your withdrawal application.Kindly reapply with attachment of required documentation.
      Documents required are Bank account statement, Identity proof, Address proof,Cancelled cheque.

      Without KYC you can not withdraw EPF. Your employer has not control to release your EPF. However, as they are delaying KYC, you can contact EPF office with all KYC documents.

    There are 2 issues with my UAN,

    1) I’m not able to update my Aadhaar card in KYC section. It is showing as mismatch in the details however I’ve provided correct information.
    2) My previous employer is not approving my KYC details. It’s been 1 week and still the KYC is showing as pending confirmation so I’m assuming my previous employer has not approved them.

    Both UAN are from 2 different employer.

      First of all I request you to merge both UAN in to single UAN number.For mismatch in KYC section kindly check if your Aadhaar details are matching with other information.

      It takes 15 days to approve KYC details. If your employer is not approving KYC you can visit EPF office for linking Aadhaar to EPF. You can produce physical document Aadhaar card and complete your KYC.

When I am trying to update my KYC, I could not find any link to upload the scanned copies. I updated my Bank & AADHAR details and those are remain at pending KYC list. But while updating PAN, I am receiving ERROR message that the name does not match with UAN. At UAN my name shows SARAVANAN P but the PAN shows PANDIAN SARAVANAN.       You can not upload any document on EPFO website.You just need to update the data. In your case as you are getting error in non matching of name. You need to change name at UAN.You are requested to submit the request to EPF via your employer.

    I applied for PF withdrawal but the same got rejected stating: “BANK ACCOUNT NU DIFFER FORM AND KYC UPDATED/BANK BRANCH NOT AUTHORISED FOR EPS PENSION DISBURSEMENT”.
    As I have switched my company so I have new salary account and closed the last one with previous company.

      Either you give same bank account which was registered earlier at UAN or do Re-KYC for new bank account before going ahead with PF withdrawal.

      By default money will come to account which is linked with EPFO.You can get detail via login to Unified portal.You can give request for updating bank details online. Your employer needs to approve that detail online. Incase it is not getting approved for few months you can contact local EFPO office.

        1. You can try option of visiting EPFO office.However, as online facility is available for changing bank account detail they may refuse your request.

    1. In my case, it took around 3 weeks. You may consider filing an RTI, asking about the status of the grievance after 1-2 weeks, this will almost guarantee the grievance redressal before the RTI reply.

      Follow the steps given below to change your NAME at UAN portal.

      Login to EPF UAN unified portal and go to Manage >> Modify Basic Details. You will be asked to modify basic details. You will be able to change Name as per your AADHAAR.

      You can open old EPF account detail online if you have valid UAN number linked with that account.If you have got old number you can either write email to EPF office or contact your employer for UAN detail.

      Visit UAN EPF portal and click on Forgot Password option.You will be asked with UAN number and Captcha. After entering this system will show your current mobile number. If it changed click on NO option. System will allow you to update Mobile number as per Aadhaar.

    I was employed with a certain organization till July 2016. I have been working in an organization which is not a part of EPF. Can that organization approve the KYC?

    In the EPF portal, when I file for the KYC, it is directed towards the old employer. But the old employer cannot see it on his portal! The person shared the screenshots, so I know he isn’t lying.

      If employer is not part of EPF (but part of private trust or Exempted EPF Fund) they can approve KYC. If system is directing KYC to old employer that means EPF transfer is pending from old employer to new employer. Kindly contact your new employer for account transfer.

      Your Aadhaar Card should have same DOB, Gender and Name. Any mismatch will not allow you to update details.If your Aadhaar Information is correct you need to contact your employee to update the detail.If Aadhaar information is wrong you need to visit Aadhaar Correction center and apply for changing details.

      If system says details are not matching that means you need to check Aadhaar Number and PAN card.Your name, DOB and Gender must match in all the cases.Failing to which system will not allow to update KYC.

    1. Hi Ranjith,

      You need to go to EPF UAN Portal and click on forgot password.It will ask you to enter UAN number and captcha. The mobile number mapped with your UAN number will be shown to you.If you want to change mobile number click on NO button. You will be asked to verify your KYC detail. Along with this you can also enter your new password.

    I have been updated my KYC in UAN before 1 week. But still status shows like “KYC PENDING FOR APPROVAL” While contact my employer she said it was approved already.     1. Dear Kamlesh,

      As of now, EPFO system is not integrated. This means you can not claim EPF at any EPFO office offline. You need to submit claim at respective EPF office only.As per me online claim is best. You can track also.

  66. I am not able to verify addhar card and pan card details with EPFO site using my UAN # showing message provided information not match with register data i am not how handle this?

    1. Dear Kiran,

      Your Name and Date of Birth should be matching for PAN, Aadhaar and EPFO site.In case of mismatch it will give error.You are requested to correct data in Aadhaar and EPFO before verification of Aadhaar.

    I worked as be below and my PF account details are as below:
    Company 1 – Joining May 2004 – no end date
    Company 2 – Joining April 2014 – July 2016 – PF transferred to Company 3
    Company 3 – Joining August 2016 – till date – PF active

    Queries:
    1. Will I be able to withdraw full PF amount from Company 1

    If I withdraw PF from Company 1,
    1. Would TDS be deducted on it, what would be the % in that case
    2. If TDS is not deducted, will I have to show this amount as extra income while filing returns and pay tax as per tax slab.

    Can you please confirm.

  76. Sir, KYC activation time is taking longer than expected by my previous employer.

    25 days has already passed, they are telling it will take 15 more days for digitally approved by epfo department.

    Please let me know if there is alternative so that i can contact pf team to approve in the earliest.
