How to Make Blogging A Career Option

Blogging can certainly be a viable career option for those who are passionate about writing and sharing their ideas with others. With the rise of digital media and the increasing importance of online presence, blogging has become a popular way for individuals to build their personal brand and establish themselves as experts in their field. Today’s Article is from India’s Top Blogger Mr. Pardeep Goyal. Here is what he wants to share with us on blogging as a career option.

I am Pardeep Goyal, founder of CashOverflow. I started Cashoverflow in 2015 as a hobby blogger to share my personal finance hacks on my blog that worked for me to manage my finances.

I did not make any money from CashOverflow for the initial 18 months of starting. My entire focus was to help my readers without worrying about making money from my blog.  I did not even use Ads on my blog because that spoils the user experience.

One day I found an affiliate campaign for credit cards. I added the credit card account opening link in my credit card articles just for the experiment.

To my surprise, 2 people applied for credit cards through my affiliate link on the first day. I optimized my credit card articles for conversion and I was able to generate a revenue of Rs 60,000 in the first month even when the traffic of my blog was just around 30,000.

In 2017, CashOverflow won the best blog in the finance category by IndiBlogger. I turned Cashoverflow into a full-time business and started investing more time and resources into it. CashOverflow started getting 2,00,000 monthly traffic by the end of 2017.

How Much Money Can You Make From Blogging

There is no upper limit on the earning potential from blogging. Cashoverflow makes a monthly revenue of 5L. It took me 5 years to reach this level.

Anil Aggerwal of BloggersPassion made $226,000 in 2022. Whereas, AdamEnfroy made $4.5m from his blog.

Your blogging earning depends on the niche you pick, the quality of your content, and the traffic on your blog.

For the first 6 months, you should focus on quality content creation. You should focus on monetization once you have at least 10,000 monthly traffic.

I recommend diversifying income streams to my readers. You must have 2-3 passive income sources that would help you in case traffic drops on your blog for any reason.

I generate passive income by investing in stocks and startups. This allows me to earn money from the stock market while actively working on my blog.

How To Make Blogging A Career Option

1. Make A Mindset of Running a Business

You must approach blogging with the mindset of running a business. You need to put in the effort required to make it successful. For example, If you were running a grocery store, you would open the store in the morning and work until night. You would take care of the stock, keep up with new trends in the market, and cater to the requirements of your customers.

Similarly, you should allocate a fixed amount of time to your blog, and consistently publish quality content.

You must understand the pain points and problems of your target audience and create content that helps them solve their problems.

You would need to learn marketing techniques that are essential for growing your blog.

2. Pick your Niche Carefully

You should pick a niche that you have an interest in, and it has growth potential. Do some research to identify the gaps in the market and pick a niche in which you can add value. Your niche must have a substantial audience and can attract new readers.

3. Creating High-Quality and Engaging Content

You should create a content strategy that aligns with your target audience’s needs. You should write your blogs with a mindset to help your reader as you help your friend. You can engage with your readers to know their problems and to get feedback on your blogs for further improvement.

You can add your personal experience in your articles that help your readers to connect with you.

4. Start Learning Marketing Strategies

Marketing is essential for growing your blog and reaching a wider audience.

You should start learning marketing strategies such as SEO, social media, and YouTube. These strategies can help you to increase your blog traffic, build a loyal audience, and monetize your blog effectively.

#1 SEO

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of optimizing your blog to rank higher on Google. You need to learn about keyword research, writing SEO-optimised content, creating high-quality backlinks, and improving the user experience on your blog. You should keep yourself updated with the latest SEO trends and best practices to stay ahead of the competition.

#2 Social Media

You can use social media channels Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn to promote and engage with your audience.

You should start with the right social media platforms based on your niche and target audience. Your social media content strategy also should aligns with your blog’s audience.

#3 YouTube

YouTube is another powerful platform for promoting your blog and reaching a wider audience. You can create videos that align with your blog’s niche and upload them to your YouTube channel.

You can use YouTube to promote your blog, increase your audience, and monetize your blog effectively.

5. Monetizing Your Blog

You can monetize your blog in many ways depending on your niche and brand value. Sharing some of the ways I used to make money online through my blog:

#1 Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is the major source of revenue from CashOverflow. In 2017-18 I made 50 lahks of revenue from credit card affiliates.

Affiliate marketing is commission based earning. You sign up with an affiliate marketing program. You get a tracking link to track the conversion through your blog. You can add that affiliate link in your articles to provide a solution to your reader’s queries.

If your readers click on your affiliate link and make a purchase, you earn a commission.

#2 Content Writing Service

You can provide content writing services in your niches to other blogs and companies who need good quality content.

#3 Courses Selling

You can create and sell your own online courses on your blog. If you have expertise in a particular niche, you can create a course that helps your audience learn more about it.

I launched the ‘30 days blogging challenge’ and ‘content writing pro’ courses successfully to help my readers in their blogging journey.

#4 Consulting

You can offer consulting services to help businesses grow their online presence. If you have expertise in a particular niche, you can provide consulting services to other businesses.

#5 Paid Newsletter

I started premium newsletters (weekly insightful email) in 2017 to help 1000 people in starting & growing their online businesses.

If you have a loyal audience, you can start a paid newsletter to share exclusive content with them.

#6 Sponsorships

You can get sponsorships from brands that align with your niche. If you have good traffic, brands may be willing to pay you to promote their products or services.

#7 Google Adsense

You can also make money by displaying ads on your blog. Google Adsense is a popular ad network that pays you for displaying ads on your blog.

I never used Google Ads on my blog, as the ads spoil my reader’s experience.

Final Words

Starting your blog and learning marketing strategies are essential steps in making blogging a successful career option. With the right mindset, you can turn your blogging passion into a profitable career.

In the starting your content may not be perfect, but it’s important to publish content consistently and keep trying to improve the quality. Consistency, patience, and persistence are key to achieving success in the blogging world.
