My child is now 4months, if i invest monthly 1000 what will be the maturity amount at her age of 21
Sokkan
Hey Ravi,
Few queries,
1. As the interest and accrued values are taxable, based on current ceiling will there be 30% tax on maturity value?
so for maturity value of 75 Lac, there will be 25 Lac taxable on the income of my daughter at her age of 21? will it be linked to her PAN?
2. Interest rate 9.1 is for the FY 2014-2015. If we invest 1000 in March now…what will be interest credited next month? will it be prorate of 9.1 to one month or pro rated to 6 months?
3. If there is change in interest rate drastically during next FY, it will impact the maturity value calculated above correct?
4. Also how far these scheme is firm, if the next opposite govt may change or cancel this scheme? Like the Cong Govt cancelled the KVP and BJP re-started again?
5. What happens if the guardian expired before maturity and child not able to continue the account?
Vikas
Dear Raviraj Ji,
If I would like to invest 150000/- per year, then I would get 78.90 lacs.
Income earned through interest is taxable? or non-taxable? If it is taxable then could you please let me know, how much tax I have to pay on maturity? And who will pay Father or Daguther?
regards,
Vikas
Raviraj Parekh
Dear Vikas,
If you will invest 1.5 lac per year you will bet 78.9 lac on maturity.
Under Sukanya Samriddhi Account interest amount and maturity amount is tax free. No Tax is applicable.

Is that 9.1% rate of interest constant every year…In the next financial yr onwards if they offer less interest (i.e eg:1% interest).. I think there is no use of it…Plzzzzz give me clarity about this rate of interest minimum and maximum….
Raviraj Parekh
Dear Bhaskar,
14 years is time period you need to deposit money after opening account. After 21 years you will get money back (Maturity).
Raviraj Parekh
Dear Bhaskar,
9.1% rate is announced by government for next year. This interest rate will vary and will be announced by government on every year.
Looking at experience of PPF interest rate variation it is likely that interest rate will vary in similar range.

Dear Sokkan,
Answer to your queries is given below:-
1. As the interest and accrued values are taxable, based on current ceiling will there be 30% tax on maturity value?
so for maturity value of 75 Lac, there will be 25 Lac taxable on the income of my daughter at her age of 21? will it be linked to her PAN?
Sukanya Samriddhi Account is tax free. You need not to pay tax on this account.
2. Interest rate 9.1 is for the FY 2014-2015. If we invest 1000 in March now…what will be interest credited next month? will it be prorate of 9.1 to one month or pro rated to 6 months?
Interest applicable is on yearly basis.
3. If there is change in interest rate drastically during next FY, it will impact the maturity value calculated above correct?
Yes it will impact.
4. Also how far these scheme is firm, if the next opposite govt may change or cancel this scheme? Like the Cong Govt cancelled the KVP and BJP re-started again?
It is possible but not likely.
5. What happens if the guardian expired before maturity and child not able to continue the account?
Account can be closed and amount can be given to girl child.

The closing amount is 4,124,936 after 14 years of investment(1.Lac each yr). This amount will be invested for further 7 years and return is 7,589,103. In general, what i know in current situation, amount gets doubled in 7.5 years easily, if invested in banks FD. I see loss after 14 years if my amount is invested for next 7 years.
Better invest in PPF for 15 years and after 15 years do a FD in bank to earn more interest.

Sir, I see in most of your comments, that marriage is mentioned. what if she decided not to marry, for ever. Is there any clause clarifying on that. what will happen to the account and its money. Pls clarify.
Respected Sir,
pls clarify my doubts on the below questions……
1. Sir, I see in most of your comments, that marriage is mentioned as a condition, for withdrawal of money. Also even for 50% partial withdrawal, the girl child should have attained 18 of years. That means , the scheme trying to give more power to the girl child than the investor, himself. Pls Clarify if am wrong ?
2. what will happen if the schme attains its maturity of 21 yrs and girl child
decided not to marry ? can she or parents free to withdraw the money without the condition of marriage happened or not ? pls clarify
3. what if the girl child decided not to marry, for ever. Is there any clause clarifying on that. what will happen to the account and its money. Pls clarify.
4. what if there is a misunderstanding between the parents and girl child, after
she attains 18 yrs of age? since she got full control of the account as account
holder, she can bypass her parents and take the hard earned money as per
her wish ? what is the protection to the investor here ? pls clarify.

Raviraj Parekh
Dear Srini,
Answer of your queries is given below.
1. Yes this scheme is for girl and investment made under this scheme will be on name of girl child. Withdrawal is possible by girl child only.
2. Maturity is not depended on marriage of girl child. After 21 years one can withdraw money and close this account.
3. This account will mature after 21 years from opening date. Irrespective of marriage of girl child.
4. No provision is available.

Hi,
I have following queries:
1) SSA has benefits of tax exemption in income tax. In that case, will this be additional exemption or the max limit of exemption will remain as 1.5 lacs only. For eg. If I invest 1.5 lacs in PPF and SSA each then will I get exemption of 3 lacs or max limit will be only 1.5 lacs.
2) Can the money be withdrawn only for education or marriage or it can be withdrawn for other purposes as well??
3) if u have already opened this account thru post office and if u wish to transfer it to the bank of India then is it possible??
Request you to send a mail for the queries.
Thank you.

After maturity is it only the girl child who can withdraw the amount ? Does the parents who invested the money lose the right on the maturity amount? Isn’t there a protective shield to prevent a young girl from using such a lumpsum amount judiciously?

Dear Mr. Ravi,
I have some following queries.
My daughter have 10 years old. If I wants to open a SSA in her name, we have to remit the amount upto 14 years that means then her age will come 24 years. We must remit the amount until 14 years or up to her 14 years age only?
We can withdraw the money in her age of 21 years old? Because if she wants to get marriage before the age 24 she can withdraw the money?. If she can withdraw the money what is the evidence we will provide for them before the marriage?
Another thing this scheme is under which policy? Any other government can change this policy? or we will lose due to any political situation? Also fix the rate of interest for the whole period?
Waiting for your valuable reply,
Thanks.

Hello Raviraj,
First of all the blog written is very fruitful and quite impressive. Now, Let me know on followings:-
1.Is it better to open PPF account instead of SSY, as liquidity of PPF account is easy, while SSY scheme having lock in period of 21 years?
2. is SIP in MF is better option for long term investment than SSY?
3. Now days, student complete their 10+2 in age of 16-17, while, the scheme can only give 50% of maturity for higher studies only after attaining age of 18 years. what is ur expert view?
4. Can this scheme open in SBI or other PSU banks in place of Post office ?
5. Is there any online facility to deposit the monthly installment or we needs to depend on deposition of cash/cheque only?
6.What would be procedure to get the maturity amount i.e. 50% upon attaining age of 18 years/ 100% upon attaining age of 21 years?
N K Gupta
please tell me name of bank and it;s branch address in Delhi where I can open an account for my grand daughter under Sukanya scheme
Raviraj Parekh
Dear Manoj,
Thanks for appreciation.Answer of your question is given below.
1.Is it better to open PPF account instead of SSY, as liquidity of PPF account is easy, while SSY scheme having lock in period of 21 years?
Yes from Liquidity point of view PPF is better choice, However Interest rate applicable on PPF is 8.7% while on SSY is 9.2%. Lock in period is kept in Sukanya Samriddhi Account because this scheme is design for Girl Child (Education/Marriage) if we withdraw money like PPF goal may not get fulfilled.
2. is SIP in MF is better option for long term investment than SSY?
SIP is defiantly good option for investment compare to SSY, however it is risky compare to SSY.
3. Now days, student complete their 10+2 in age of 16-17, while, the scheme can only give 50% of maturity for higher studies only after attaining age of 18 years. what is ur expert view?
Your point is valid that restriction 50% is less as per my view at least 75% of money to be allowed for withdrawal.
4. Can this scheme open in SBI or other PSU banks in place of Post office ?
You can open Sukanya Samriddhi Account in SBI and other PSU banks also.Total 28 Banks are authorized to open this account.
5. Is there any online facility to deposit the monthly instalment or we needs to depend on deposition of cash/cheque only?
Currently you need to deposit money by cash or cheque, However soon we will expect online money transfer facility.
6.What would be procedure to get the maturity amount i.e. 50% upon attaining age of 18 years/ 100% upon attaining age of 21 years?
50% money withdrawal is allowed for higher education (Any course after the schooling such as Graduation, Post-Graduation etc.) or Marriage purpose. Account holder need to submit withdrawal slip along with relevant proof like admission proof/fee receipt or marriage card or certificate.
On maturity, the balance including interest outstanding in the account shall be payable to the account holder on production of withdrawal slip along with the pass book.

My sister is staying in Canada. Her husband recently passed away in Canada when she was 37 weeks pregnant. She got a baby girl & she is 1 month old & they both are staying in Canada. As the kid was born in Canada. I just want to know whether, we can open SSA on the name of the kid.
Prabha
Raviraj Parekh
Dear Prabha,
It’s very unfortunate that your sister’s husband passed away.
As per current rules NRI can not open Sukanya Samriddhi Account. You can make an investment in PPF/Fixed deposit on your name on her behalf.
Raviraj
Sreenivasulu Dasari
Hi,
I recently opened SUKANYA SAMRIDDHI ACCOUNT in post office.
is there any variation in Interest rate if i deposit 2000 monthly for first 3 months and 1,44,000 in the last month of the year? for example 1st month i deposited 2000, 2nd month i deposited 1000/-, 3rd month i deposited 4000/- later in the 12th month i deposited 1,43,000. totally i deposited 1,50,000.
Raviraj Parekh
Dear Sreenivasulu, Interest on Sukanya Samriddhi Account is calculated on yearly basis,Yearly compounded.Current Interest rate is 9.2%. Interest calculation happens at the end of year means if you deposit different amount in this account in different month final interest calculation happens at the end of year on total balance in account.
Molly Bino
My daughter is 9 years old. I would like to invest 1000/- per month. How many years I have to invest and when I can get the full amount.
Sreenivasulu Dasari
Hi Raviraj,
Thank you for your response!!
As per you, interest calculate will be on yearly basis.
I opened this account in Feb 2015 so the interest rate calculation will be in Feb 2016 or is there any particular time period like April to April?
Raviraj Parekh
Dear Sreeni, Interest calculation for Sukanya Samriddhi Account will be done same as that of PPF at the end of financial year.(April to March)
Raviraj Parekh
Dear Molly, You need to invest in Sukanya Samriddhi Scheme for 14 years and you will get your money back after 21 years.
Kuldip Sharma
Dear sir,
I have some questions:
1. Is there any bound that income tax payee may open these account for their baby girl?
2. as per asked above question and your reply- ” If someone can not continue installment after certain yrs for e.g. After 7 yrs he can not continue” – “account will become discontinued”.
So when these amount will be paid later and the candidate will be getting interest on the deposited amount till the end of 21 years?
Raviraj Parekh
Dear Kuldip,
Answer of your queries is given below.
(1) Sukanya Samriddhi Account can be opened for Girl child (Age up to 10 years) by parents or legal guardian. No question of Income tax payee arise.
(2) Account can be closed/discontinued only in the case if financial condition of parents is not good and running this account is causing extreme hardship to account holder. You need to submit relevant proof along with application for the closure of account. This is about to scrutiny. Amount and Interest will be handed over to Investor.
Hope I have cleared your doubts.

Thank you for all the information.
I have just one query.
Can we use maturity amount for other purposes apart from Girl Child Education & Marriage with due consensus from girl child ? For example to expand business.
Raviraj Parekh
Dear Prashant,
Very Good Question. Prashant this scheme is launched with Objective of Beti Bacaho Beti Padhao. Prime intention is to make sure that girl child get good education. Sukanya Samrridhi can be opened and operated by girl child only. You can use this money for expansion of business, however i feel you should not dilute purpose of this scheme.Hope i have answer your question.
Thanks
Parshant Goyal
Thank you for the reply.
Definitely girl child education & marriage is the top most priority.

I have opened SSY acc in my daughters name in november 2015. What about the interest rate calculations for financial year 2015-16 & 2016-17. Assuming it may vary say 9.2% is current interest rate and 9% for next financial year. Also how should i deposit amount, is it from the date i opened acc(14th nov 2015) to 14th nov 2016. or do i have to pay 150000 on 1st april 2016. little bit confused as i want to invest once in a year(150000).
Your response is highly appreciated
Raviraj Parekh
Dear Rajesh, Interest rate for the FY 2016-17 is yet to be disclosed by the government of India. It is best to contribute at starting of April so that you can fetch maximum interest same as that of PPF.

Dear All,
I have opened SSA in PNB Punjabi Bagh branch New Delhi-26 last year.
They have not provided me SSA passbook as per Govt.standard.
They have provided me PNB passbook and deposited cheque in that account and same day they transferred the amount to Nagpur bank (according to bank) .Now its showing ZERO in my passbook.
Is it normal ??
If they should issue me another passbook where they have transferred the amount.
Please reply.
Thanks
Suresh Kumar
Raviraj Parekh
Dear Mr.Suresh,
PNB should issue Sukanya Samriddhi passbook and it should show amount deposited by you as a balance. Kindly contact Bank authority.
Pavan
Hi RaviRaj,
Let me thank you for providing detail information about this Scheme to everyone. My question is: If I deposit Rs. 1000 on the first month and second month I deposited Rs.8000. And then in the 3rd month I didn’t deposited anything. But I have deposited Rs. 16,000 on 4th month. Like wise if I deposit Rs. 1,00,000 after end of the year. How would be the calculation for that particular year and the maturity amount at the end of 21 years. Kindly clarify.
Thanks & Regards,
Pavan Kondreddy
Raviraj Parekh
Dear Pavan, Thanks for your question. Calculation of Sukanya Samriddhi Account is same at that of PPF. A Return is calculated based on lowest balance in account on monthly basis and credited on yearly basis.

hi Raviraj,
1) Is it good to start investing in this scheme anytime or better to start at start of financial year @April month
2) Which option will give higher returns, monthly or yearly.
Please advise.
sri
My daughter is 8 years old (She will complete 8 years by this July 2016). If I invest 1,00,000 per year, and If I opt of yearly payment,
1. Should I pay at the beginning or at the end of the deposit year.?
2. When my daughter reaches 18 years of her age, how much return will I get for her higher education? on what basis the return 50% will be calculated. Will that be on deposited/maturity amount at the time her 18 years of age.
Raviraj Parekh
Dear Mohan, It is better to start investment at the start of Financial year same as that of PPF. You should make yearly investment before 5th April to get maximum returns.
Raviraj Parekh
Dear Sri, You should pay this money at the beginning of year before 5th April every year.If you continue to deposit this amount every year account balance will be 16 lac (after 10 years) when your daughter reaches 18 years of age. You will able to withdraw 50% amount from the same.

Nawaz Shariff
Hi Friends,
As per my knowledge the scheme which has been initiated by government is awesome.
But I have a couple of questions regarding above conversations of Molly Bino and Raviraj Parekh.
As molly said their daughter is 9yrs old and they want to invest 1000k per month and as per raviraj if they invest for 14yrs it means child would have completed 9+14=23yrs.
My questions is if the maturity of the investment will be for 21yrs, then when Molly will get their amount after 23yrs or 21yrs.
Waiting for your reply.
Raviraj Parekh
Dear Nawaz,
Maturity of account is linked with date of opening account and not the age. It will mature after 21 years from the date of opening account.
Ravi Kashyap
I have three daughters aged 5 yrs, 3 yrs, and 4 months respectively. i can deposit Rs.50000 for each daughter in one year. How much can i get after the completion of the period for every daughter.
Raviraj Parekh
Dear Mr.Kashyap,
If you deposit 50,000 Rs in each account you can get maturity amount around 24 L in each account considering interest rate 8.6%.The maturity of the account is 21 years from the date of opening of the account or as girl child gets married whichever is earlier.
